Nature Journals


We carry Nature Journals with us both in the classroom and in the field. These journals help us to keep track of things we've seen and activities we've done in fun and creative ways.

Here are some entries from our 2013 year:

2-13-13 - Scientific Drawing

We observed various biofacts and a live Eastern Screech Owl at the Audubon Society in Smithfield, RI. Here are some journal entries by the Urban Naturalists of their biofacts or the owl that were observed:

2-27-13 - Observation of an Owl 

We observed a nature scene and tried to figure out what situations occurred there. We also considered how scientists and police officers were similar when trying to figure out what happened when visiting a scene: 















3-4-13 - Tragedy of the Commons Discussion 

The students took notes on the book Tragedy of the Commons and discussed methods to ensure that common waters that are used for fishing will continue to supply fish rather than be over fished:
